Aiken Is Growing, and So Is the Food Scene

From new restaurants downtown to national brands moving in, Aiken is getting a lot more places to eat.

If you’ve been driving around Aiken lately, you’ve probably noticed something — we have a lot of new restaurants coming.

And it’s not just more of the same.

We’re talking Hawaiian BBQ, Mediterranean food, an Argentine grill, seafood, breakfast spots, wings, bakeries, and more. Aiken’s food scene is changing pretty quickly, and when you look at everything happening around town, it makes sense.

So, What’s New and What’s Coming?

More Than Restaurants Are Coming Downtown

Two boutique hotel projects are also expected to bring their own restaurants.

The Laureate is being developed in the old Farmers and Merchants Bank building, while The Oliver is part of the restoration of the old Hotel Aiken.

Those projects could bring more than just hotel rooms downtown. More overnight visitors mean more people grabbing breakfast in the morning, walking around downtown during the day and looking for somewhere to eat or have a drink at night.

Why Is Aiken’s Food Scene Growing?

The simple answer: Aiken is growing.

The city grew almost 4% from 2024 to 2025, and thousands of new homes are planned as development continues north toward I-20. Tourism also increased by around 10% in 2025.

Then think about what already brings people here — polo, horses, golf, First Friday, The Alley, Masters Week and other events throughout the year.

And eventually, everybody has to eat.

Local restaurant owners seem to see the opportunity, too. The owners of The Feed Sack opened Lanky’s, and the group behind Neon Fig and La Scuderia has more concepts in the works. Food truck operators are moving into storefronts, while national chains continue filling spaces around Whiskey Road.

There’s clearly demand.

What Does All This Growth Mean for Aiken?

For those of us who live here, the most obvious benefit is more choices.

More date-night spots. More places to take the family. More breakfast and lunch options. More reasons to spend an evening downtown.

It also means more jobs, more activity around town, and more competition.

And honestly, the variety might be the most interesting part.

Hawaiian. Mediterranean. Argentine. Seafood. Bakeries. Breakfast. Wings. Desserts.

Aiken has always had some great local restaurants, but our food scene is starting to look a lot different.

Restaurants alone don’t tell you everything about where a city is headed, but they can definitely give you a clue.

More houses are being built. More hotels are coming. More people are visiting. And businesses are betting on Aiken continuing to grow.

Some people are going to love all the growth. Some probably won’t.

But one thing is pretty clear:

Aiken is growing — and apparently we’re getting hungry too.
